ohh... and my car also has a slight miss to it when i am in the 1300-2000 rpm range in 1st and 2nd, it just started suddenly? i have never changed plugs, optispark, nothing. any ideas?

A slight miss could be anything from the Opti to a fouled plug to a bad plug wire..or even the coil. If you haven't changed a single thing...it may be a good decision to spend a little money now and replace all the typical stuff that goes bad over time. It may save you the cost of a tow, or even the high cost to have a repair shop do the work.

Having gone down the Opticrap, oh! excuse me Optispark, road I agree with Rady !100%. It is amazing the wierd troubles this @#$$%^$ can cause. Who in the hell dreamed this thing up?

I think it would be a little difficult buying everything ahead of time, ha I don't know about everyone else but I do not have $1500 to drop. But replacing the water pump is definitely a good idea. I did right away otherwise you have a mess on your has if it goes.

Speaking of mid-life crisis toys, well my dad is a little older (57) but still... Since I have bought my car, in August he drives it atleast twice a week! He's really into old cars but he's starting to love mine, he takes short trips all over the place with it and I live in such a small town, many ppl think it is HIS!!! lol ohh well im glad someone uses it while I'm at school...

My Opti went bad today. A shop is doing the work. A nice 950 dollar expense. The mechanic say the cap is like 250 and the rotor is like 300. Labor is about 250.

So, question... You mentioned summit sells the whole thing. Should I discuss this with the mechanic. Also. Should I bring some of the things mentioned in your sticky up with him. Or just let him do his job.

I already have about 450 hp with 4:11 gears. I dont think I need more HP. LOL

    Thanks

You can buy a whole brand new AC Delco opti for less than 300 bucks, so your mechanic is taking you for a ride on the price for the cap and rotor.

Yeah, it is always better to suggest or ask questions of a mechanic otherwise they will gouge you out of your money. Any reputable mechanic will put on parts that you buy thus saving you money and may not warranty the parts but will for the work however the parts themselves have gaureenties on them so your covered that way. Ask the mechanic if you buy the parts and he puts them on how much less it will cost, you will be shocked.

Elitesparkplugs.com had opti's for like 239. or something like that.. Check em out.. Byunspeed.com has an MSD cap and rotor for a 150. something.

It's better to do it yourself. This way you know it's done right and it's not hard to do. Without just screwed. LT1's are a specialty. Nobody know's how to work on them. They all claim they can, But by the time they are done. There is a list of things that all of a sudden need to be changed.. Go figure!!

Actually, the true crisis is spending $14,300 for the car, and over $16,000 in repairs, maintenance, and mods. :dizzy:

i alwayz found that talking about the work ahead of time, and letting the mechanic you have an idea of whats going on usually helps on the pocket gouging prices...but personally i like to do the work myself, even if its for the first time, pick up a repair manual and take ur time...but its all in your own preferences..either way at a shop your pretty much screwed...lol

Actually, the best way is to post your questions here on this site. This way, you will get the feedback and help from a lot of folks rather than just one. Also, if you click on that "Search" button, you'll be surprised how much info you can find that's already been discussed. Type in "Free Mods" and you'll get this....

There is a user named Shoebox that has set up a website that is probably the BEST, most comprehensive, site of explanations, how-to's and other stuff for the LT1. All LT1 owners are indebted to him for saving us countless hours of stuggles!

    http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech1.html

In this site, you'll even find steps to do a TB bypass!
