I'm wanting to get me some tires for drag racing. I don't go often so I'd like to keep the cost reasonable. Ideas?

I was wondering about some plain steel wheels and then the tires. What size? 15", 16", ?. What rim width (of course it must match the tire).

Also thinking about some narrow tires for the front.

 

I'm thinking track only that I swap.

 

Hmmm, crickets...I thought there would be lots of opinions.

I always ran M/T ET Drag radials and drove to and from the track. I ran them at 11.5 lbs! And smoked them hot in the water box and got 1.56 60's in a 3400lb 1974 Camaro. Calgary AB at 4000 feet a/d ran 11.56 and 114.92.

If you run them the way M/T suggests they will last longer but won't hook as well. I am also aware they changed compounds a few years back however I'm told they are still the best bet for a street/strip all use tire. You can pump'em back up to 28 to drive on them.
