Hey guys, new to the forum and I was looking to see if I can get some help on identifying this 68 Camaro. This was my wife’s fathers car and we did not get very much information on it prior to him passing. I’m really torn because there seems to be a lot of conflicting parts on the car. It has the Z28 tire emblem inside the glove box, reverse lights down low, deluxe door panels inside, front disc brakes, factory AC, but it still has a mono leaf 10 bolt rear end. My understanding is there’s no possible way it’s an SS or Z28 with the 10 bolt rear end, but why would it still have the emblem in the glove box? Engine and transmission do not appear to be original as the engine block is stamped CE, so that was a GM crate engine for warranty replacement if I’m understanding correctly. All I know from the engine was it was rebuilt by a drag racer out of Oklahoma by the name of Jimmy Nix about 35 years ago and he was killed at a top fueled drag race in 1994. That’s about the only information I have on the rebuild. I’ve included pictures of the engine, transmission, emblems etc. Any possible information would be greatly appreciated as I was mainly trying to determine the model of the car and amount of restoration funds that would be worth putting into it. People often swapped in and out various parts from different trim levels, so you really need to get the RPO sheet from under the seat, and also start collecting data and post it here.
VIN, Cowl tag information, engine stampings, transmission code, protecto-plate, etc
