I just recently bought a 1998 Camaro SS

My car is navy blue(28U) and is a hardtop, with M6 transmission and tan cloth interior.

2 of my friend believe my car is pretty rare.

Ive looked at the production numbers knowing only 238 were blue and 599 hardtops were produced in 1998.

Wondering a further breakdown to find out that my car is 1 of ??

    Chris,
I had (HAD) a 98SS in Blue, Hardtop, Auto, and I think it was roughly one of 44 or less... If you scour my old posts, it likely had more accurate numbers. I used to have a Production number breakdown for the 98's. Here is a link I just found after a quick search:
    Microsoft Word - 1998CamaroProductionNumbers-1.doc (camaronationals.online)

Thanks for the info Mikey. Ive owned it for 3 weeks and have been cruising it here for 2 weeks. Its a big hit at the hangouts. Things I hear the most is "Ive never seen a blue SS" and "Ive never seen a Hardtop SS" Thats why Im thinking this particular car with these optons may be a very limited number. I registered my car in the SLP registry. According to the registry there is only 2 other 98s registered in Canada.

There was another production number site/list that provided percentage breakdowns by color, t-top/hardtop, and auto/manual, maybe something more. Base on a higher percentage being manual versus automatic yours is likely one of less than 60+\-. I also registered mine on the SLP registry. After 25 years, how many are still alive? I’d guess maybe half. Pretty rare when your talking about in those terms.

miss selling mine everyday. And now that I live in the Destin, Florida area. No snow! I also miss and regret selling my all original 1968 C-10. 350-4bbl, auto.

    Enjoy your 98SS!

    Mike

you need to account for the fact there were 5270 28u navy blue camaros made that year only thing is they were not many made into ss camaros but the color is common .
i used to think my cars color was rare it was only used for a couple years and unlike most camaro colors you cant e ven buy the dupli color touch up paint for it cause they dont make it cause its a dealer only color

    Chris,
So I did some math. 238 Blue SS built in 1998. Of those T-Roof Vs. Hardtop 1998 SS: 76% had T-Roof / 24% HT. So cut that by those percentages. Then if you take a basic percentage split between 6-Spd and Automatics.
So... taking 2397 total 98 SS, 6spd 1485, and 912 Automatic. The percentage are 62% were 6-Speeds, and 38% were Automatics.
Going back to T-Roof/Hardtop percentage of 238 (T-Roof = 181) (Hardtop = 57), then applying the percentage of 6-Spds to Auto's out of the 57 that would put it at 1 of 35 6-spd., leaving 22 Automatics.

Congrats Chris, your 98 Camaro SS 6-Spd, Blue, Hardtop is reasonable calculated to be 1 of 35, of which how many survive... less than 20 likely.

Dang! I need to track down my 98 SS, Blue, Auto, Hardtop knew it was rare, but one of 22! Dang!

Ya I was actually looking for a 94 red hardtop to do as a tribute car for a friend that passed away who owned Canadian Performance and had one bad ass 94 which held alot of drag racing records at one time. My friend found this 98 and said "You need to call this guy tommorrow" So I did and 2 days later it was sitting in my garage. My friend knows his cars and I figured if he is so horned up over this thing its gotta be special. Best part of this thing is it only has 55000km (34175 miles) and it is one of the cleanest 24 year old cars Ive ever seen. Initially I was gonna put a procharger on it and put it in drag trim but after I did a little bit of research I thought better of doing anything to it because of its rarity.

Now with it being 1 of 35 and likely less than 20 survivors the number would be even lower as my car has neutral(tan) cloth interior.

Thanks a bunch for the info and effort put in to help me figure this out.
