67 RS title says 68 but wrong

I have a 67 RS but title and door tag got changed to 68 because partial VIV got stamped wrong at factory and original got lost during someones rebuild. The car matches the cowl tag in every way. All original body panels show original paint especially where no one ever repaints. Hood and trunk are not original. The partial Vin starts 8L1 where the 8 is 1/2 off line. The title is 7L1. All numbers are the same otherwise. This car has never been cut. The Cowl tag Sequence is spot on for the title #'s. How can I get this car certified as a 67, which it is, so I can make the title and door tag match up. I can show any pic required that shows all this. Here is the car.

It looks like a legit tag for a 67 - The 6th digit of the VIN number on the dash should be a 7 - not sure why the partial on the block is 8L1 but the title always goes by the full VIN. If the title is 7L1 it sounds like the DMV made an error.

There is no VIN on dash, on door tag and partials hidden on body which are stamped wrong. If it were a 68, dash yes, and the VIN would be 8L3.

Sorry , I was thinking 68 for the dash. The only thing that could possibly be tampered with is the door tag - someone replaced it to match the partial engine stamp? It won't be a matching drive train if you correct it - catch 22. Do the rivets look original?

The door tag got replaced by the CHP because the original got destroyed during a past repaint. The only thing the CHP went by was the hidden VIN partials, which have the 8L1 mess-up. I haven't seen the engine block VIN. is that back by the transmission? I don't know if it's the original 327 motor...? I'd like to know that. It even has 67 original CA plates, the original tail light covers & back-up RS light covers, the original head light cover motors(which I took out & replaced but kept). I know some history on the car because the guy who owned it, his G-ma owned it in the 60's, his Mom bought it back after another guy owned it for awhile and then he got it when she passed in her 'Will', even tho he already had from her for awhile. He is constantly finding original stuff from it in the garage and sending it to me. He is still attached to the car because of all that, but he likes that I'm fixing her up.

If you have a 4-spd manual transmission ( muncie) , one location is on the passenger side near the assmbly build date - just above and to the left of the drain plug of the main casing. On Saginaws there is a casting pad that contains the VIN -

But for a 67, it may only apply to the SS's and Z28's - it wouldn't hurt to look...

I'm missing something here. Why is the car being confused as a 68? VIN indicates the car is a 67, built in December of 1966. It's a deluxe interior car, RS, manual transmission car with console and exterior styling group.

67 Camaro's only had the actual VIN number on the dog leg of the driver door jamb. It was moved to the top left of the dash in 68. Do you have a pic of the VIN plate in the dog leg of the jamb?

Unfortunately the trim tag info cannot be used as a VIN - it does show the correct year but the VIN on the tag on the door can only be used and according to OP it shows 68 as the year.

Do you have a picture of the VIN plate?

Yes I do, and the hidden partial that caused the problem that wasn't recognized when the door tag was re-done.

That is the strangest thing I have ever seen. That 8 should not be there before the L. Very, very strange!

My 2005 GTO was ordered new from the factory and when I received the title it said '4 door.' I never contacted the DMV, it's hilarious.
